Maki Ueno was born in Kagoshima, Japan. She majored comparative literature at a Japanese university before moving to Connecticut to study cinema, focusing on cinema theory and filmmaking. Maki moved to New York City and taught Japanese at Japanese Childrens‘ Society and completed the one-year certificate program at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in 2008. She received the Director‘s Fellowship from ICP and was a Student Fine Art Finalist at the NY Photo Festival 2008. Her project, ”Lillian‚“ will be shown at the Camera Club of New York in August and PS 122 Gallery in March 2010.
