Eric William Carroll is a Brooklyn–based artist exploring the metaphorical potential of photography. He received his B.A. in Philosophy at Coe College in 2002 and his M.F.A. in photography from the University of Minnesota in 2006 on a graduate school fellowship. Art historian Arthur Danto referred to Carroll‘s thesis show One Year of Taking Pictures as ”…the most diabolical work I‘ve ever seen.“ His work has been shown internationally, including Fotohof in Salzburg, Austria and the Bamboo Festival in Anji, China. Carroll has completed residencies with Art City and the Blacklock Nature Sanctuary and also fronts the indie–rock band Tim Rally Gold.

Statement:
My slow, camera–less process is the antithesis of contemporary photographic technology. I am interested in distilling photography to its most basic elements of light and timing in an attempt to minimize form over long periods of time. Everyday objects, spaces, and moments are frequent subjects. My art stands as a reminder that human experience–and our memory of it—is temporary and intangible.
