Jurors Statement
Immediately upon viewing this year's Camera Club submissions I could see the depth and quality of the work. The photographers who chose to enter this competition had a kind of courage and passion that made my job all the more difficult. When I finally decided on the winner my decision was based on the fact that Laura Straus had taken an idea and performed variations upon it with considerable variety and camera handling virtuosity. I like the way she continued to find new images within the same setting. Usually photographers repeat their victories and conceal their weaknesses, in this case her series showed conceptual advances from image to image. The honorable mention delegates could each have easily won the competition under different circumstances. The quality of their work showed innovation and love for photography... and I am including the digital effort as well. I am curious to see what the future holds for the entire medium apropos digital... etc. Ralph Gibson New York, June 28, 2004 Back to Top |
