Sean Carroll was born outside of Boston in 1978 and grew up on Boston's North Shore. He studied photography at American University, the Prague Academy of Film and Television, and received an MFA in photography from Pratt Institute. In 2004 the District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts Awarded him a Young Artist Grant. His photos have been exhibited in Washington DC, Northern Virginia, New York City, and North Carolina. He is based in Brooklyn.
